Asian bloggers to meet in Cambodia’s ancient town

SIEM REAP — Bloggers, netizens and technologists from around Asia are gathering in Siem Reap on November 1 – 5, 2012, for BlogFest.Asia ‘12. A couple of hundred bloggers from the region will attend the event at Build Bright University, in Siem Reap, the gateway to Cambodia’s famous Angkor Wat.

Blogfest.Asia is a festival for bloggers in Asia. This is the region’s 3rd cross-border gathering for blogger community. Everyone is welcome to join the festival and meet 200 hundred bloggers from Cambodia and from the neighboring nations — Myanmar, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Bangladesh.

The 4-day brainstorming and networking meet-up provides a unique opportunity to address “Change through technology”, in Asia perspective.

“As the ASEAN community grows closer and we aim to realize our dream of integration by the year 2015, BlogFest serves as a platform to bring regional bloggers closer in order to bridge and bind the ASEAN community together by fostering an exchange of ideas, thoughts and culture,” said Kounila Keo, a co-organizer of BlogFest.Asia 2012 who also attended the 2010 edition of the same event in Penang, Malaysia.

In June 2009, the first BlogFest.Asia was held in Hong Kong, and Malaysia’s Penang the following year.

Blogfest.Asia will support and work closely with associated blogger community and events in the region. It will also serve as an idea hub, community exchange point, and action camp for bloggers in Asia to make technological and social impact for the benefit of the region.

This year’s festival “seeks to inspire new generations of Asian bloggers to pursue their blogging passion, so that they are surely taking the leap into the new information era through such an awesome event,” said Keo.

The Swedish Program for ICT in Developing Regions (SPIDER), the Embassy of the United States of America, the Asia Foundation, the British Embassy, Global Voices, the Wikimedia Foundation and Sabay are sponsoring this event attracting an unprecedented level of attention into Cambodia from the technology-oriented communities around the world.

During the opening session,  it will be presided by Dr. IN Viracheat, the Chairman of Build Bright University council as well as the closing remark to be presided over by Minister of Ministry of Information, H.E Khieu Kanharith, this marks as a historic event due to the support and participation from every sector including academia, government, private sectors.
